Abstract :
Aim and Background: Students are considered the most important segment of any society. The growth and development of society will not be possible without paying attention to health-oriented behaviors among young people, especially students. Over the past decade, statistics have shown an increase in behavioral vulnerabilities and lack of attention to health status among students. Therefore, this study aimed to predict self-care behavior in students based on emotion regulation and self-compassion.
Methods and Materials: The research was descriptive-cross-sectional and correlational. The statistical population included all students studying at Islamic Azad University, Roudehen Branch, in the academic year 2025. A sample of 160 people was selected voluntarily and based on the Plant formula, and they responded to research instruments including the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gratz & Roemer, 2004), the Self-Compassion Questionnaire (Neff, 2003), and the Self-Care Behavior Questionnaire (Hahn et al., 2014). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simultaneous linear regression methods.
Findings: The results showed that there was a significant correlation between emotion regulation (r=-0.513 & p=0.022), and self-compassion (r=0.378 & p=0.029), with self-care behavior in students, respectively. According to the results of the regression, emotion regulation alone had the ability to explain 0.26 percent and self-compassion had the ability to explain 0.18 percent of the variance in self-care behaviors.
Conclusions: On this basis, the attention of community officials can be directed to the mental and behavioral health status of students and the need for programs to improve students' self-care behavior can be suggested.
