حقيقت پراگماتيكي در انديشه «ريچارد رورتي»، بديلي است براي جست وجوي حقيقت به اسلوبي كه سنت فكري و فلسفي غرب تاكنون بدان پرداخته است. در بررسي مفهوم حقيقت، رويكرد عمل‌گرایانه رورتي به تقابل با دو روايت مطرح در انديشه فلسفي غرب برمی‌خیزد: از یکسو با روايت افلاطوني - دکارتی، كه در آن حقيقت به مثابه امري متافيزيكال تعبير می‌شود و از سوي ديگر با روايت فراتجدد كه معتقد به شالوده شكني حقيقت است و حكم به نسبي بودن آن می‌کند. نویسندگان در پاسخ به این پرسش که: نسبت برقرارشده میان حقیقت و سیاست، چه پیامدهایی در حوزۀ اندیشه سیاسی رورتی دارد، به صورت‌بندی این فرضیه پرداخته‌اند که «نسبت برقرارشده میان حقیقت و سیاست در اندیشه رورتی، منجر به ابداع سیاست متکی به امید اجتماعی بر مبنای تز اولویت دمکراسی بر فلسفه شده است». بر این اساس تلاش شده است با واکاوی الگوي حقيقت پراگماتیکی‌ای كه رورتي پيش می‌نهد، نشان داده شود که این الگو، ادامه همان مفهوم حقيقت در سنت پراگماتيستي «ويليام جيمز» و «جان ديويي» در قالب چرخش زباني است. همچنين شاخصه آن تأکید بر همبستگي است در مقابل آنچه رورتي خواست عينيت می‌نامد. این روایت در عين حال كه قادر است بدون داشتن هرگونه ادعای عینیت از درافتادن در دام نسبی‌گرایی بپرهیزد، مفهومی را مدنظر دارد که به شیوه‌ای عملی در راه برآورده ساختن مقاصد و حل معضلات سیاسی، مفید فایده واقع شود.
The idea of pragmatic truth in Richard Rorty's thought is an alternative method to search the truth, not in a way that the western philosophical tradition has dealt with heretofore. In examining the notion of truth, Rorty's pragmatic approach contrast with the two narratives raised in western philosophical thought: on the one hand, with Platonic-Cartesian tradition, in which reality is interpreted as a metaphysical matter; and on the other hand, with post-modernist narrative who believes in the deconstruction of truth and claims of relativity of truth. To find an answer to the question: What are the proportions and consequences of established relation between truth and politics in Rorty’s political thought?, the authors formulate the hypothesis that "the connection established between truth and politics in Rorty's thought, leads to innovate a politics relying on social hope, based on the thesis of priority of democracy over philosophy". Accordingly, efforts have been made, by analyzing the pattern of pragmatic truth which posed by Rorty, to show that this pattern is a continuation of the same concept of truth in William James and John Dewey's pragmatic tradition in the form of linguistic turn. Also it is characterized by an emphasis on solidarity, versus of what Rorty calls “will of objectivity”. While this version is not without any claim of objectivity, and avoid falling into the trap of relativism, considers a concept that in a practical manner, is useful to meet pragmatically the objectives and solve the political problems.
