Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of post-traumatic growth in the relationship between self-compassion and guilt on existential anxiety in survivors of unexpected death. This research was descriptive-correlation based on path analysis. The statistical population consisted of women and men who had the painful experience of the unexpected death of their loved ones, and referred to counseling clinics in Isfahan city, and 198 people were selected by convenience sampling. The research tools included: Good and Good's existential anxiety scale (1974), post-traumatic growth by Tedeschi and Calhoun (1996), Eysenck's guilt (2007) and Reiss et al.'s (2011) self-compassion questionnaire. Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficients and path analysis. The findings show that the coefficients of the indirect effect between guilt and existential anxiety (β=0.062 and P<0.01) are Positive and significant at the 0.01 level. Also, the coefficient of the indirect path between self-compassion and existential anxiety (β=-0.11 and P<0.01) was negative and significant at the 0.01 level. The results showed that it can be concluded that post-traumatic growth mediates the relationship between guilt and existential anxiety in a positive and meaningful way. Also, post-traumatic growth mediates the relationship between self-compassion and existential anxiety in a negative and meaningful way
