Investigating the Effectiveness of Group Cognitive-Behavioral Play Therapy on Aggressive Behaviors in Children Aged 8 to 11 with Diabetes in Isfahan

Abstract :
The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of group cognitive–behavioral play therapy on aggressive behaviors in children with diabetes aged 8 to 11 years. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. From the population of children with diabetes in the city of Isfahan, 30 children were selected purposively and randomly assigned to an experimental group (15 participants) and a control group (15 participants). The experimental group received group cognitive–behavioral play therapy in eight 45-minute sessions, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) from the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment and analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The findings indicated a significant difference between the two groups in posttest aggressive behavior scores after controlling for pretest effects (p = 0.044). The results suggest that group cognitive–behavioral play therapy significantly reduces aggressive behaviors in children with diabetes. The application of this approach alongside medical treatments may be considered as part of comprehensive psychosomatic care programs for children in healthcare centers
