Abstract :
Introduction: Bulimia Nervosa in adolescents is one of the most important psychological problems, often associated with difficulties in emotion regulation. Cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT), as one of the effective psychological approaches, has received particular attention in interventions related to this disorder. Objective: The aim of the present study was to examine the effectiveness of CBT in improving emotion regulation among adolescent girls with Bulimia Nervosa in lower secondary school.
Method: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with pre-test–post-test and a control group. The statistical population consisted of female students aged 12 to 14 years with bulimia nervosa in lower secondary schools in Isfahan. A total of 30 participants were purposefully selected and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received eight sessions of CBT intervention, while the control group was placed on a waiting list. Data were collected using the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Questionnaire.
Findings: The results indicated that CBT led to a significant improvement in emotion regulation in the experimental group, whereas no noticeable change was observed in the control group. In addition to the overall score, variable subscales also showed significant improvement.
Discussion and Conclusion: The findings confirm that CBT can be used as an effective intervention to enhance emotion regulation skills among adolescents with bulimia nervosa. This intervention has the potential to reduce disorder symptoms and promote mental health in this age group.
